Someone Forgot 2 Set The HOOK!

The weather outside was frightful
Two fishermen were delightful
Fishing in rain fro salmon
Let it rain, let it rain....

There were coyotes prowling
There were fish biting
There were people sightseeing
Let it rain, let it rain...

Finally, salmon were swiping
Caught J.U. napping
There was no hook setting
Then it rained, and it rained...

Coyote prowling...

THREE in TWO

Introducing... The Revenant!

You all already met him from my earlier post of Sunday, 10/14: Salmon Moving Through...  He was fishing with PRO for the first time.  Conditions were tough, but PRO managed to boat a smoker for him.

First salmon for The Revenant on 10/14/2018!
Monday, 11/12 - Happy Veterans Day

Got a late E-Mail last night from PRO with the subject titled: "Fish."

That's all I needed to get all my chores done and the consent from Mrs. Miracles to go fish early in the morning.

We met at dark thirty!!!

It was pitch dark and we had to use our flash lights to try and get to the honey hole.  The Revenant was with us.  We fished from 6 AM to 8 AM.  To say that we had an exceptional day is an under statement!  We had an AWESOME fishing day!  God is good!

Incredible as it may seem, there was already a boat in the water before 5:30 AM.  As we prepared to launch, another boat got dropped in the water.  And as PRO was paddling in the dark, there was already another fisherman on a boat with a flash light turned on doing the same thing.  There were also bank fishermen using the Flying C's.

Before 6:30 AM, we missed a fish and landed one: a whopping 36-inch, 20 pound, wild jack!!!

The second one was a 27-inch, 8 pound, hatchery jack!

Finally, before 8 AM, on the retrieve, the chances of catching a salmon was 1 in 50!!!  You guessed it!  We slammed another one.  This monster was 38-inch, 25 pound, wild jack!!!

JU's 2018 Salmon Fishing Log

By the grace of God, I started fishing at the Oak Tree in 2015, a year after my retirement.  I have been tremendously blessed by the fish caught, and friends met along the journey.

Today, I enjoyed another day fishing with Brother Cheech at the Oak Tree.  We were the only salmon fishermen diehard....

Here is the salmon fishing summary for 2018, and a repost history going way back to 2015!

Sea Lion Fishing

Got an opportunity to fish during my favorite time this morning: 6:30 AM - 9:30 AM.

However, the sea lion spoiled my fun!  It fished the entire time that I was out there.  It bopped its head up and down looking for fish.  It finally found it at the Cove and was having a field day!!!  It appeared as if it got 4 or 5 salmon within a short period!  The video does not do it justice.  I saw it live where it was flipping the salmon around.  Nature TV at its best!  Needless to say, it didn't leave any for JU.

Remember, the salmon that escaped JU's frying pan on Friday?  I still remember it vividly.  Lol.  Check out the tooth marks it left behind for me to remember it by.
I should retire this lure😀

The Nation of Johnny United Report

I thought it would be a good idea to catch everyone up by reporting on other pictures and stories that were shared with me.

Johnny United Nation: Featuring WizTech

First off, WizTech determined that it was too difficult to catch a salmon.  What better excuse than to go up to Ice House Reservoir and nab a trout!

Johnny United Nation: Featuring Grand Master Fisherman

Watching "OUCH," elicits some love from GMF.  He shared his wisdom and sent some pictures to cheer me up.

His son, Young Master, has been averaging a bass a day in the Sac. River.  And an awesome 40 bass trip in the Delta.

GMF was busy bagging a deer!  Maybe he should be renamed Grand Master Fisherman/Hunter😀
Smile, you on candid rifle scope!
Venison.  Too bad, I am not a meat eater.

Tuesday, 11/6

Today, I saw a sea lion while fishing.  No nibble as far as salmon is concerned.  I fished the first hour at the Cove, then the next two at the Oak Tree with Brother Cheech.

Monday, 11/5

Crazzeee!!!

Brother Cheech and I were fishing for salmon at the Oak Tree.  Out of nowhere, a huge striped bass, around 30 inches, chased an 8-inch bait fish towards us.  The striped bass went airborne and try to swallow the bait fish, but missed.  What excitement!

Again?!?!??!

To all you Catholics Fishermen out there:  HAPPY ALL SAINTS DAY!

I believe most salmon fishermen are done with fishing for salmon in the Sacramento River at and around the Walnut Grove area, except for JU and Cheech.

I fished by myself at the Oak Tree between 11 AM and 2 PM today.  At the Cove you got Cheech and his son Anthony.  Beyond the Cove, the salmon gauntlet began with Mark.

At 1:15 PM, I heard commotions from the Cove.  At the same time, I got a grab on the Fire Ball!!!  However, just like yesterday, the salmon let go 😞

Just like yesterday, at the end of my fishing time, I came by to chill with brother Cheech.  His son Anthony was there, no longer fishing.  It was just Cheech fishing.  Cheech told me that after I left yesterday, he got another salmon.  He had the salmon already in the net....  The let was horizontal.  Before he got a chance to pick it up, the salmon shook off the hook and swam away!!!😧  Thus, he lost two yesterday!  Today, was another story.  His son, Anthony came by the Cove to fish.  Within half an hour, he landed a nice 12 pounder, already in the ice chest.  Hence, Anthony was not fishing.  The salmon destroyed his lure.
Shank all bent up.  Look at the tooth marks rip on the skirt of the lure.

Then, Mark came by the Cove.  He said he is still stuck at 20 salmon for the season, since we last spoke, which was TWO WEEKS ago!  For Mark, that's super tough because he fishes hard every time he comes out: 7 - 9 hours of fishing if he doesn't get one!!!!

Until next time, tight lines!
