Cool Outfits, but Poor Execution @ Doran Beach

Saturday, June 14th

Shortly after our Dakota Trip, it was low tide at Doran Beach.  A few times a year, when the tide is low, it is the perfect opportunity to dig for clams or catch crabs.  It is messy work!  We donned our cool getup and proceeded toward the beach to dig for some clams.  At this location, the most difficult thing about digging for clams is to recognize the opening in the sands.  Avoid the round indentation because it means digging 4 to 5 feet deep just to get a horse neck clam.  However, if the indentation resembles a key hole, then the digging is roughly 18 inches deep and the reward is a butter clam.  Unfortunately, I have forgotten the lessons from the last trip; I should have read my previous blog regarding butter clams.  We dug for several back breaking hours to barely fill half of our 5-gallon bucket.  Finally, the cavalry arrived.  Grand Master Fisherman and Young Master showed up and showed us up again.  They helped fill our buckets in no time.  It is good to have good friends!

Seven advisers and ONE digger??!? :-)

Low tide provide food for the locals too.

I don't know if I want to get dirty.

Yuppy girl I ain't.

We hardly got any clams, but at least we look cool.

Young Master is successful as usual.

A bucket full, thanks to GMF and YM
