Sunday Outings

Mrs. Miracles and I spent today visiting North Natomas Regional Park because it was recently stocked with rainbow trout.  This is our first trip there.  We did not fish, but talked with the locals. 

While I was talking with a young fisherman, he suddenly set the hook and landed a trout!  He did it so quickly, I did not even see his fishing pole tip move.  He revealed the secret that he let the line taunt on purpose and saw the line straighten up and set the hook immediately!  He allowed me to take a picture of him to post to this blog.  Thanks bro!

Local Pond "Chickens"

As previous stated, "chickens" are what the local fishermen at the American River call pan-frying-size stocked trout/steelhead.  Hence, I am using the same terminology for the trout that I caught today.

I went to the local pond at 10 AM looking for my dad, but he wasn't there.  I tossed out some hardware and landed a limit of "chickens" fairly quickly.

Went home and called dad to find out where he's at...  And he said, "I already went fishing from 6 AM to 7AM."

?!?!?!  My bad, miscommunication 😊  At least, I got a limit.

First Bass of 2018

According to Grandmaster Fisherman (GMF), when the weather is TOO perfect, fishing is tough.

But hey, "Where two or more are gathered, there AM I in their midst."

This morning, Friday, 09FEB2018, it took two hours before we found fish.  Once we found where they were, we had about a dozen bites within the hour!!!  However, we were out of practice; we only boated three 😉  Thus, JU recorded the first bass for 2018.

I prefer SacTown; but in a recent fishing report, the Fish Whisperer referred to our local fishing location as the 916 area.  I like it!

So what's been happening?

I got to go to the Military Exchange as a guest of mom & dad, first time for me.  The fishing stuff is rather expensive, but other stuff is very reasonable.  For example, you can buy a 58" flat screen Samsung Ultra HD TV for $450 out-the-door price!

Just yesterday, I volunteered to trim the trees at my dad's home.  I called the night before and agreed to meet him at his home at 10 AM.  Around 9:30 AM, I called; and no one picked up the phone.  I left a message saying that I am on my way.  Because I know that my dad has been using Berkley Powerbait to fish for trout in the "916 area," I was about to surprise him with FOUR jars of it.  Normally, the price is around $4 per jar; however, I found a sale for a dollar per jar.

Anyhow, as I was about to start up my engine, my daughter brought out the phone and said: "Ong (grandpa in Vietnamese) is on the phone for you."

I told him that I was on my way over, and he told me... "Let's reschedule for next week."

"What?  Where are you?"

"I'm at the local pond fishing.  The bite is hot!"

"Ok.  I'll be there."

I got there around 10 AM.  Dad and his friend from church already got five trout.  I gave him the powerbait, but his friend intercepted it.

"Why don't you give me the four jars for 5 bucks?" Said dad's friend.

"Sure." Said dad.  "Hey son, here's 5 bucks.  Why don't you buy me another four jars the next time you visit the store."

"?!?!???!?"  God is good.

Now, if you are still reading this...  I saved the best for last!  I mentioned earlier about the Fish Whisperer.  He sent me an awesome fishing report with his latest catch.  In his own words...  Without further ado...

I put on a gold kastmaster & within a couple casts I feel this amazing tug I haven’t felt in years….”fish on & it’s a steelie”!!!  My heart is pumping now just thinking about it.  So after getting him almost to shore I notice my plunking rod is in the way.  I had to go downstream & hand the rod off to my other to get it under my plunking rod.  The fish went deep downstream, but worked her back & beached her in the sand.  All I got to say is I’m listening to the wife any time she hints I should go fishing. (hatchery hen 8.1lbs & just over 29 inches).  This fish was way bigger than my fillet board…what an awesome problem to have!  No roe as she already spawned(just a small handful left over in her belly).  My first fish of 2018 & first steelie in over a year  J

More Z-Rays?!?!!

I was working out yesterday, when I received a call from my brother Ron aka "The Rebel."  In the middle of my run, I couldn't pick up the phone, but I got the message that my favorite Z-Rays were on sale at Wild Sports in Orangevale.  Wild what?!?!?!  I have never been there and they're about to close out?  A quick Google search, gave me the information on this link: http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article193066524.html

Yes, you guessed it!  I just got back from there.  Everything in the store is 50% off!!!  Check it out.  The original Wittmann Z-Ray lures are still available there!!!  I purchased a few 😀  Hey, I left more than a hundred there for any brother that wants to buy some.  With the discount, the lures are about $1.85 each depending upon the sizes.

Another Day of Fishing?!?!!

Wow.  2018 fishing year is starting out with a bang for JU!

Got another offer to go fishing with my brother, the Captain, yesterday in the Delta.  Got two bites, but none landed.  Can't win 'em all.

If the Captain is sitting in the bow, then who is operating the boat?

Did see a ship the size of a building floating by....

Thread a Crawler.... Catch a Fish!

The opening day for stealhead fishing in the Upper American River is today!  I have the pleasure of fishing with PRO and the American.  We drifted from Sunrise to Rossmoor Bar.  We started at 10 AM and shared the river with many other fishermen.  There were lots of boats on the water, including many well known Fishing Guides with their clients.  The excitement of opening day is electrifying, and I am blessed to be a part of it!

Actually, it was not that easy!!!  It was a rough day of fishing.  We fished from 10 AM to 3 PM.  We witnessed only one guy landing a fish.  When we caught up with him, he told us he landed a sucker fish 😲

Near the end of the day, we boated and released a wild stealhead!

First day of the year; first fish of the year!

We were extremely blessed!!!
