It's Crappie Time!!!

According to the 2017-2018 California Freshwater Sport Fishing Regulations:
1.77. Sunfish.
Includes bluegill, green sunfish, redear sunfish,
pumpkinseed, warmouth, and Sacramento perch.

5.82. Sunfish and Crappie.
(a) Open season: All year, except for closures
listed under district or special regulations.
(b) Limit: Combined bag limit of twenty-five
sunfish and crappie
of all species, except in:
(1) Barrett and Upper Otay Lakes (San Diego
County): zero bag limit for all species.
(c) Size Limit: No size limit, except at Hodges
and El Capitan Lakes (San Diego County),
where the crappie minimum size limit is 10
inches, total length.

For a change of pace, The Ultimate Fisherman went fishing for crappie on Friday.  Yes, Friday, at the peak of the salmon fishing season!

J.U. is blessed to have many fishing brothers.  It's one of those times to take a break from more than 30 salmon fishing trips so far this season!!!  Boy, was he rewarded.  He got to land the first three fish of the day.  And by the end of the day, the three brothers limited out with a total of 75 fish!!!  It's just crappie, but this is the very first time that J.U. limited out on crappie :-)

J.U. really needed the Grandmaster and PRO because this appears to be excellent striper country and this is Grandmaster's stomping ground!  With all those bait fish, just imaging the possibility of landing a big striper!  Unfortunately, J.U. was not paying attention to locations and techniques while fishing with the Grandmaster, so a great opportunity was missed in landing a big striped bass :-(

Introducing: Excitable Fisherman!

Another worthy sized fish.

The Captain was killing it!

Sweet!

It's a good fishing day.

Don't Believe the Hype!

Last week, fishing between the dock and the old oak tree was dismal!!!

The Ultimate Fisherman, otherwise, known as JU, was out there fishing Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM... and didn't catch a thang!  Not only that, during those dates and times, JU only witnessed two fish being caught; one was from his daughter at the old oak tree... and here's what she caught on Thursday...

The other fish was caught on Friday, by Lethal Fisherman.  JU didn't take a picture of it, but it was a bright, wild jack that LF estimated it to be 8 pounds.  On the same day, there were more than TWENTY brothers fishing between the dock and the old oak tree...  and... that's why the name is appropriate for LETHAL FISHERMAN!!!

JU is only reporting what he witnessed with his own eyes; hearsay, without pictures, don't make it in this report :-)

The story thus far....

Lucky - Biggest fish at 15 lbs.
Lethal - Nailed three salmon.
JU - Two salmon on homemade lures.
RainbowTroutMan - Super fat Steelhead at the dock.
Charlie - Nice ~ 2 lbs. steelhead at the dock.

On the positive note, it was better than working :-)

God is good!  Have a blessed weekend!

Lethal Fisherman!

This morning, I had the pleasure of taking my Brother Lethal Fisherman out to the dock for the first time.  We were to meet there at 6:30 AM.  Let's just say, before the hour was over, or rather at 6:35 AM, he landed his first salmon for the 2017 season!  Hatchery Hen, 28-inch, 10-pound.

He is now known as Lethal Fisherman because there were around 12 fishermen on the dock by the time we left (9:30 AM), but he was the only one that landed a fish.  However, there were several fish on - fish off.

Introducing: Lethal Fisherman!

THIS IS FRESH NEWS!!!  Posted at 2:12 PM

I took off at 9:30 AM.  But before I left, I showed Lethal Fisherman the old oak tree.  Who else but Brother Lucky was there.  So I left him in good hands.  At 1:00 PM, he sent a picture of his second fish for the day!  How about that!  Limited out on your first day of salmon fishing!  God is good!!!

12.5 pounds.

Lucky Strikes!

Went salmon fishing this morning and took the usual route.  Passed by the old oak tree and saw Lucky's truck.  Proceeded to the dock.  That was a mistake.  I arrived at 6:45 AM and there were a bunch of fishermen there already.  Don't these guys sleep :-)  Anyway, fished there for half an hour with 11 other fishermen.  It was all the combat fishing I could take for the day.

I left the dock and went back to the old oak tree.  By the time I settled, it was 7:30 AM.  Went to say hello to Lucky and as we greeted, he struck!  BAM!  Fish on!  Just like that.  I got to return the favor and netted his first salmon for the season, a nice, wild, 15-pound hen!  God is good!

Winning Lure: Pink body, gold blade Flying C.

15-pound, wild hen.
Video of Lucky's first salmon of 2017:

I asked Lucky to text Roger, who was fishing at the dock.  Then we were joined by Roger.  Three of us fished on until around 9:00 AM.  Then I felt a slight bump :-)  BAM!  Fish on!!!  Landed my first fish on my new homemade lure that I named One-Eye TOAD.

One-Eye TOAD S.I.R.E.N.
You have to see the video to appreciate the first catch from One-Eye!!!

Lucky and I left at 9:30 AM.  Roger got the whole place to himself.

I prayed that Lucky would catch a fish and he did.  I also prayed that I would catch a fish and I did :-)

God is good!

It's the Psychedelic Color This Time

Dropped off my eldest at the Sac Airport this morning.

Then it was time to sneak away for a quick fishing trip under the old oak tree.  Arrived at 8:30 AM; and Brother Lucky was already there.  Cast for forty five minutes with my homemade lure (Psychedelic) before the first and only hookup of the day!  I thought it was a darky, but it turned out to be a bullet!!!  Handsome hatchery jack came in at 24-inch and 7.5 pounds.  Left the old oak tree at 11 AM.

Thank you Brother Lucky for the assist with the netting.  I truly appreciate it.
